3 MLB Prop Bets to Target on Thursday 6/20/24

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing via the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

MLB Player Props

Will Smith To Record 2+ RBIs (+270)

The Los Angeles Dodgers will face a left-handed pitcher at Coors Field this afternoon, so Will Smith's potential is through the roof.

Smith has made an absolute killing against lefties this season. He comes in with a .364 BA (third-best in MLB), .667 SLG (fifth), 1.115 OPS (fifth), .303 ISO (sixth), 206 wRC+ (fifth), and 49.1% FB%.

It doesn't hurt that the lefty he is facing is Ty Blach, who enters with a 4.65 ERA, 4.62 SIERA, and 1.41 WHIP. He's allowing righties to hit for a .349 BA, .530 SLG, and 1.30 HR/9.

The batter-friendly park factor at Coors Field helps explain LAD's massive 7.5 implied run total in this one. The Dodgers' league-leading .343 OBP against lefties also means that Smith is well-situated to walk to the plate with runners in scoring position.

With +270 odds available, I'll back Smith to knock in a pair of runs.

Juan Soto To Record 2+ Total Bases (+100)

It's not every day we find this Juan Soto prop at even money, so I'm keen on backing the AL MVP contender (+500 odds; third shortest) today.

Soto has shined since joining the New York Yankees. He sports a .312 BA (seventh-best in MLB) and has hit 18 home runs (seventh) and recorded 55 RBIs (fifth). It's safe to say the 25-year-old is having his best season yet, and he could fare well in today's matchup against Cole Irvin.

Irvin's 3.03 ERA is marred by some rougher underlying numbers, including a 4.37 xERA and 4.15 SIERA. While he's been proficient at mitigating power (0.79 HR/9), he is still generating just a 17.9% K% and could have some issues silencing this powerhouse Yankees lineup.

Soto is rocking a team-leading .333 BA versus left-handed pitchers. His other stats against this handedness include a .551 SLG, .217 ISO, 183 wRC+, and just a 14.0% K%.

Baltimore's bullpen isn't exactly fresh after utilizing six relief pitchers in last night's extra-innings win, so it seems Soto is in a solid spot to produce in this one.

William Contreras To Record A Run (-135)

The Milwaukee Brewers could have a fun night at the plate with a vulnerable pitcher set to take the mound for the San Diego Padres.

Adam Mazur will make his fourth major league start tonight, and he's already gotten himself into a few sticky situations for San Diego.

Through 12 2/3 IP, Mazur has surrendered 13 hits and 11 earned runs. He's also walked an eye-popping 13 batters in this span, so while a 7.82 ERA, 7.28 SIERA, and 21.3% walk rate are inflated from a small sample, they are nonetheless concerning.

This brings me to William Contreras. Milwaukee's catcher has been excellent this season, recording a team-leading 89 hits (fourth-most in MLB) and 53 runs (sixth-most).

He's generating a .306 BA, .491 SLG, and 146 wRC+ versus right-handed pitchers. Mazur's sky-high walk rate scares me off backing Contreras in the total bases market, but his ability to reach base and status as the second hitter in Milwaukee's lineup has me confident that he can cross home plate.
