3 MLB Prop Bets to Target on Thursday 5/30/24

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing via the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

MLB Player Props

Christian Walker to Record an RBI (+165)

As per usual, a Thursday slate in MLB isn't giving us many options, so let's focus on the nightcap of games.

Our first matchup to dive into is a game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets.

The Diamondbacks haven't packed the same punch offensively that they did a year ago, but there are still options -- which is why we will look to first baseman Christian Walker to Record an RBI (+165) tonight.

In a season where the likes of Corbin Carroll can't figure things out at the plate, Walker's consistency is all the more important. The first baseman remains slotted in the four spot of the Arizona lineup, giving himself an opportunity for RBIs on a nightly basis.

So far this season, Walker has driven in 33 runs while powering 10 home runs. It's why I'm looking at him tonight, as his bat remains the most consistent in the order and should be able to come through against a bad Mets team.

The Mets will start Christian Scott. The rookie starting pitcher has had an okay start to his MLB career, posting a 3.97 ERA and 3.69 SIERA, but there should be enough room for offense tonight from the D-Backs. Some of the numbers to look for with Scott include his high 46.2% fly-ball rate and 32.3% hard-hit rate. Both of those stats are good news for Walker, who has a 38.3% hard-hit rate and 45.6% fly-ball rate this season.

Walker should be able to drive the ball in this matchup tonight and knock in a run.

Matt Olson to Record 2+ Total Bases (-105)

Matt Olson is the member of the Atlanta Braves I want tonight as they face off with the Washington Nationals.

The Nationals are starting Trevor Williams tonight, who has had a good start to his 2024 campaign. He has a 2.29 ERA and 2.78 FIP, but his 3.88 SIERA and 3.72 xFIP show that his numbers should regress sooner rather than later. With a career WHIP of 1.37, I do like the Braves tonight -- even with Williams' early season success.

The Braves have the best implied total on the night at 4.93, per numberFire's heat map, and they're set up for success with Olson leading the way.

Olson hasn't been on the home run pace that he was a year ago when he led the majors with 54, but he's still driving the ball. The first baseman has 8 home runs, 13 doubles, and a triple. Taking into account his 36.0% hard-hit rate and 43.2% fly-ball rate, he can make the necessary noise at the plate against Williams. Following the injury to Ronald Acuna Jr., the Braves lineup has experienced a shakeup, but Olson remains in the cleanup spot.

A role in an offense that can still pack a punch like Atlanta's is why you roll with Olson on tonight's slate.

Juan Soto to Record 2+ Total Bases (+110)

The New York Yankees are once again in a premier spot to shine against Patrick Sandoval and the Los Angeles Angels.

New York has the second-best implied total of today's slate, coming in at a strong 4.76 mark with Sandoval on the mound.

Sandoval has an inflated 5.60 ERA and 4.01 SIERA. Hitters are also driving the ball against him better than previous years, as his 31.1% hard-hit rate is the highest the lefty has had against him since 2020. The Angels' starter also has a 3.90 FIP and 1.55 WHIP -- which would be the worst of his career if the season ended today.

That brings us to Juan Soto. The AL MVP favorite has a .312 batting average, .578 slugging, and .425 wOBA through 57 games thus far. His ability to hit the ball with impact has led him to a 44.4% hard-hit rate -- ranking him third in the majors. Tonight, I'm looking for Soto to Record 2+ Total Bases (+110).

Soto has 27 extra-base hits and 19 multi-hit games this season. He's as good as any at putting together multi-base games on a nightly basis, giving me the confidence to believe in him against Sandoval.
