3 MLB Prop Bets to Target on Friday 5/31/24

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing via the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Please note that betting lines and projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.

MLB Player Props

Marcell Ozuna to Record an RBI (+105)

When it comes to the Atlanta Braves lineup right now, the only hitter I trust is Marcell Ozuna.

Ozuna has been consistent and dominant at times for Atlanta. Through 54 games, the designated hitter has a .312 batting average and .426 wOBA. He has also hit 16 home runs and drove in 49 RBIs -- which ranks him second in the majors. That's where we turn tonight as I like Ozuna to Record an RBI (+105) in an exceptional matchup against the Oakland Athletics.

The Braves have a 4.95 implied total tonight against the A's, the second-best of the slate per numberFire's heat map.

Oakland will start JP Sears in tonight's contest. The left-handed pitcher has a 4.76 SIERA and 4.51 FIP -- numbers that should turn into plenty of offense for the Braves tonight. Sears has a 49.2% fly-ball rate and 33.3% hard-hit rate, both of which are rates that Ozuna should take advantage of. The free-swinging designated hitter has a 40.0% fly-ball rate and 39.3% hard-hit rate of his own that set him up for success.

Trust in Ozuna for tonight's packed slate.

Wilyer Abreu to Record 2+ Total Bases (+105)

Wilyer Abreu has become one of the top favorites for the AL Rookie of the Year and deserves some respect tonight in a great matchup.

The rookie right fielder has arguably been the best position player on the Boston Red Sox this season. His bat has been strong at the plate, especially against righties. The Red Sox will be facing tonight as the Detroit Tigers will start Kenta Maeda -- ideal news for Abreu.

Against right-handed pitching, Abreu is hitting .296 with a .917 OPS, .252 ISO, and .394 wOBA. Those are elite numbers by Abreu, and it's why taking him to Record 2+ Total Bases (+105) looks like a good play tonight.

Maeda is in the midst of the worst season of his career. In his first 8 starts, Maeda has a brutal 4.80 SIERA and 5.80 ERA, ranking among the worst for starters in MLB. The starting pitcher also has a 5.98 FIP and 1.32 WHIP -- both of which would rank as career-worst stats.

Run with Abreu tonight as the Red Sox have a solid 4.65 implied total for this game. All is set up for him to thrive at the plate.

Freddie Freeman to Record an RBI (+115)

Freddie Freeman continues to benefit from his spot in the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup, making him a great choice to Record an RBI (+115).

Los Angeles has the best implied total of the day's slate at 5.32 against the Colorado Rockies and their starter, Dakota Hudson.

Hudson has significantly struggled this season -- but particularly against lefty hitters. So far this season, Hudson has allowed a .362 wOBA, 5.94 FIP, 1.23 HR/9, and .416 SLG to them. It's perfect for Freeman, who, in his own right, has destroyed righties.

The Dodgers first baseman is hitting .331 against righty pitchers with a .427 wOBA, .998 OPS, .233 ISO, a 45.8% fly-ball rate, and .564 SLG. Overall, he has driven in 33 runs for the Dodgers as the team's No. 3 hitter. With +115 odds, it's hard to turn away from Freeman compared to the rest of the Dodgers lineup.

Hudson and the rest of the Rockies pitching staff won't have many answers for Freeman in this game. Fire him up as one of the top prop bets on the slate.
