3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays for Thursday 8/24/23

Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.

Here are some value plays to target on FanDuel for today's main slate.

Andrew Heaney, P, Rangers ($8,200)

It's always tough to put Andrew Heaney into lineups due to his inconsistency and low floor. But those two things are factored into his salary, and while he might score single-digit FanDuel points today, Heaney also has a pretty high ceiling, which is what I care about for DFS.

We've seen the full Heaney Experience over his past four outings as he's gone for 61, 35, 4 and 11 FanDuel points. He can go off for a ceiling performance today in a date with the Minnesota Twins, a team with the third-highest strikeout rate against lefties (25.5%).

Minnesota's 4.43 implied total is the night's fourth-lowest, and Heaney will be in my player pool tonight at pitcher.

Tim Anderson, SS, White Sox ($2,500)

The Chicago White Sox own the night's top implied total (5.32) for their home clash Oakland Athletics' southpaw Ken Waldichuk.

Waldichuk has pitched to a 4.87 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) while permitting 1.54 homers per nine. He's been particularly bad when stepping away from his pitcher-friendly home park, giving up a .397 wOBA and 1.66 dingers per nine on the road.

Anderson is projected to hit leadoff and will have the platoon advantage against Waldichuk. Given Chicago's slate-best implied total, Anderson is easy to like as an economical way to get a piece of the White Sox -- even if he's struggled in 2023.

Evan Longoria, 3B, Diamondbacks ($2,100)

Evan Longoria is another low-salary bat who allows you to get exposure to one of the slate's top implied totals.

Longoria and the Arizona Diamondbacks have a 4.75 implied total, the night's third-highest, for their matchup with lefty Brandon Williamson. Longoria thrives in this split, amassing a .371 wOBA, 45.3% hard-hit rate and 43.4% fly-ball rate against left-handers.

Williamson has been better of late but has a meh 9.3% swinging-strike rate for the year and is giving up a 43.6% fly-ball rate to righties.

numberFire's model has Longoria as the slate's best point-per-dollar bat.
