3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays for Thursday 7/6/23

Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.

Here are some low-salary players to target on FanDuel for tonight's main slate.

Advanced statistics courtesy of FanGraphs.

Tanner Bibee, SP, Cleveland Guardians ($9,200)

Tanner Bibee is set up for a big day and could be the start of the day for DFS lineups.

The Cleveland Guardians starter has been nothing short of impressive so far in his rookie campaign. Bibee is sporting a 24.4% strikeout rate (better than what he was doing in the minors) to go along with a respectable 4.17 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA). Add in a 3.63 fielding independent pitching (FIP) to really get a grasp of why Bibee not only is a good start for DFS lineups today but potentially worth looking at in the future.

The matchup for Bibee can't get much better today. The Kansas City Royals have one of the worst offenses in the league. To start, the team's .292 weighted on-base average (wOBA) is second to last in the majors, with only the Oakland Athletics being below them.

Add in the brutal 24.7% strikeout rate (fifth highest) and minimal 76 home runs (third-least) to know that Bibee could really feast against the Royals.

With Framber Valdez set to pitch on Saturday and no longer today, Bibee has the highest projection for pitchers according to numberFire at 32.6 FanDuel points.

Christian Walker, 1B, Arizona Diamondbacks ($3,100)

Today projects to be a huge day for the Arizona Diamondbacks, making Christian Walker a top value for any DFS lineup.

Walker has been really good again this year which shouldn't come as too much of a shock with how great the Diamondbacks offense has been all season long. The Diamondbacks first baseman currently has the best wOBA of his career at .362. The same can be said about his strikeout rate also as he has limited those too, being only at a 17.8% clip. His 18 home runs and 57 RBIs could both climb because this is a night you'll want to consider stacking the Arizona lineup as Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte, and others in the lineup are all viable options for a big night against New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco.

Carrasco is not the same pitcher he once was and has largely been one of the worst in baseball this year. If he were to qualify, Carasco's 5.32 SIERA would be the highest of any starter in the majors. Add in that he's walking players at a higher rate than ever before (10.8%) and failing to punch many out at the same time (16.3%) seemingly should allow the Diamondbacks' lineup to shine.

Carrasco also has a poor 6.46 FIP to go with the rest of his struggling categories.

Walker is a top-five option based on projections tonight as the numberFire model has him projected for 13.3 points.

Gleyber Torres, 2B, New York Yankees ($2,800)

Picking any New York Yankees can be a difficult choice these days but Gleyber Torres could be worth the consideration as a value tonight.

Torres has struggled to live up to the expectations he had as a prospect and what he was able to do in his second season with 38 home runs. However, underneath his .245 batting average, this season is a player who is having one of his better seasons. First things first is that his strikeouts are down (14.2%) while his walks are up (10.8%), showing a better eye for the ball than he's ever had. Torres' .354 expected weighted on-base average (wOBA) is also the best of his career.

Kyle Bradish is no easy test for Torres and the Yankees as the Baltimore Orioles starter has had himself a good season. The 3.99 SIERA and 3.83 expected FIP (xFIP) are both very respectable marks. That being said, the park factor or Yankees stadiums mixed with Torres being far better against righties than lefties, setting him up for a chance to thrive.

The numberFire model has Torres projected to score 12.5 FanDuel points.
