3 FanDuel MLB DFS Stacks for Monday 6/24/24
Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.
This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.
The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out our daily fantasy baseball projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- to identify the slate's best bats.
Let's look at the top stacks for today's main slate.
MLB DFS Stacks
Kansas City Royals
Implied Total: 5.62 | Opposing Pitcher: Roddery Munoz
The Kansas City Royals have been struggling at the plate as of late, but they have a premier chance to bounce back on Monday versus Roddery Munoz of the Miami Marlins. Munoz has plenty of blue on his Baseball Savant page, ranking in the 1st percentile in xERA (7.00), 16th percentile in walk rate (11.0%), 1st percentile in barrel rate (15.9%), and 2nd percentile in hard-hit rate (50.0%).
In three of his last four starts, Munoz has given up five-plus hits and four-plus earned runs. While Munoz is getting hit hard by lefties and righties, he is permitting a .477 wOBA, 5.14 HR/9, and 1.64 WHIP to left-handed bats, compared to a .271 wOBA, 1.72 HR/9, and 1.09 WHIP to right-handed bats.
With those splits in mind, Vinnie Pasquantino ($2,800), MJ Melendez ($2,500), Adam Frazier ($2,300), and Kyle Isbel ($2,400) are all in a fantastic spot. Both Frazier and Isbel are dealing with injuries, so make sure they are confirmed in the lineup before using them in stacks.
Just because Munoz is allowing better numbers to left-handed hitters doesn't mean we should ignore the likes of Bobby Witt Jr. ($4,200), Salvador Perez ($2,900), Maikel Garcia ($3,000), or Nelson Velazquez ($2,700). Witt leads the Royals in wOBA (.386), wRC+ (149), and ISO (.227) against right-handed pitching.
The four players I'd focus on in Kansas City stacks are Witt, Pasquantino, Perez, and Melendez. Melendez has at least one hit in seven of his last nine contests, and he owns a .226 ISO or better versus Munoz's three primary pitches (cutter, four-seam fastball, and sinker) versus left-handed hitters.
Pittsburgh Pirates
Implied Total: 4.71 | Opposing Pitcher: Carson Spiers
Carson Spiers made his first start of the season for the Cincinnati Reds his last time out, giving up four earned runs and seven hits versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road. Ahead of his second start, Spiers will take on the Pirates again, but this time it will be at a much less pitcher-friendly venue with the game taking place at Great American Ball Park.
Spiers isn't missing many bats as he's in the 21st percentile in whiff rate (21.0%) and 27th percentile in strikeout rate (18.9%), which has led to him being in the 34th percentile in xBA (.257). While Spiers has yet to give up a homer to either side of the plate, he's allowing a .348 wOBA, .444 SLG, and 1.50 WHIP to lefties, compared to a .251 wOBA, .289 SLG, and 0.95 WHIP to righties.
Taking that into account, Bryan Reynolds ($3,300), Oneil Cruz ($3,100), Rowdy Tellez ($2,300), and Jack Suwinski ($2,700) are the players who interest me the most. Reynolds has produced 18-plus FanDuel points in five of his last nine games with three homers in his last four appearances.
Nick Gonzales ($2,900) has also shown flashes recently and Andrew McCutchen ($3,000) should continue to bat leadoff for the Pirates. McCutchen is sporting a solid .335 wOBA, 115 wRC+, and .166 ISO versus right-handed pitchers this year.
Reynolds and Cruz are the primary targets with winds blowing slightly to right field while Tellez and Suwinski provide solid value in a stellar matchup.
Oakland Athletics
Implied Total: 4.13 | Opposing Pitcher: Griffin Canning
An extremely hittable pitcher -- Griffin Canning -- will face an Oakland Athletics lineup that struggles to get hits Monday. Which one will perform better in this battle of mediocrity?
Canning has been woeful this season, sitting in the 15th percentile in xERA (4.99), 9th percentile in strikeout rate (15.4%), 35th percentile in barrel rate (8.4%), and 17th percentile in hard-hit rate (43.7%). Entering his 16th start of the campaign, Canning has surrendered three-plus earned runs in four of his last five outings.
For those who want to use one of the high-salary pitchers like Cole Ragans ($11,000), Tanner Houck ($10,600), Freddy Peralta ($9,800), or Justin Steele ($9,500), we can find the salary to do that by stacking the Athletics. Even though lefties have done more damage against Canning, nothing suggests righties aren't worth using in stacks versus the right-handed starter of the Los Angeles Angels.
JJ Bleday ($2,800), Miguel Andujar ($2,700), Brent Rooker ($3,000), Tyler Soderstrom ($2,600), and Shea Langeliers ($2,800) are the players to focus on in Oakland stacks. Bleday and Soderstrom have each scored 18-plus FanDuel points in three of their last seven games while Rooker boasts a .359 wOBA, 139 wRC+, and .224 ISO versus right-handed pitchers.
Max Schuemann ($2,300) could bat leadoff for the Athletics, and Zack Gelof ($2,600) is worth mentioning for wraparound stacks. Despite going hitless in each of his last three appearances, Gelof posted 18-plus FanDuel points in each of his three games before that.
