3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Friday 9/1/23

Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.
This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.
The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out numberFire's daily fantasy baseball projections to identify the slate's best bats.
Today is a Coors Field day between the Colorado Rockies and Toronto Blue Jays, so while you should of course look at those lineups, we will focus on three other teams since we don't need to tell you what you already know there.
Let's look at the top stacks for today's main slate.
Boston Red Sox
Implied Total: 5.32 | Opposing Pitcher: Jordan Lyles (RHP)
The Boston Red Sox are in a great spot today as they go up against Jordan Lyles and the Kansas City Royals.
Lyles has made 25 starts this season, so we have a pretty good clue of what he's about -- and it isn't all too great. The Royals' starter has a 6.51 ERA that isn't made much better by his 5.22 SIERA and 5.82 FIP. In his last five starts, he's allowed at least four runs in each game, and in his last three outings, he's given up seven runs twice. There hasn't really been a bad time to draw him this season, but the Red Sox are certainly getting him at the right time -- especially after their tough series against the Houston Astros earlier this week.
As has been reoccurring with Boston this season, Justin Turner ($3,500) is your top option offensively. What Turner has done in his first season with the Red Sox has been nothing short of incredible. The 38-year-old has not slowed down -- even with a bone bruise in his heel. He's hit to the tune of a .287 batting average with 22 home runs and 87 RBIs to show for it at the heart of the lineup. numberFire has Turner as the highest projected bat for the Red Sox at 13.8 FanDuel points.
Adam Duvall ($3,200) is a must-play, as well. He's been one of baseball's hottest hitters over the last week and a half. Since the beginning of his 10-game hitting streak on August 21st, he's hit 7 home runs and has driven in 15 runs. That's absolutely tearing the cover off the ball.
Other hitters to consider from the Red Sox lineup include Rafael Devers ($3,800), Alex Verdugo ($3,300), Masataka Yoshida ($3,100), Triston Casas ($2,900), and Connor Wong ($2,600).
Houston Astros
Implied Total: 4.86 | Opposing Pitcher: Carlos Rodon (LHP)
Carlos Rodon has not been the pitcher the New York Yankees were hoping for when they signed him to a six-year, $162 million deal in the offseason. The good news is that it sets up the Houston Astros for all the possible success tonight.
It's worrisome how bad Rodon has been in his first season with the team. He's up to a 5.97 ERA in six starts, and add in the 20.0% strikeout rate that is a stunning 13.4 percentage points lower than his rate from a season ago to really pull together how tough it's been for him this year. The 6.79 FIP and 5.43 SIERA only paint the picture of his struggles that much more.
Timing couldn't be any worse for Rodon, but it's pretty great for the Astros. Houston has scored six-plus runs in each of the last five games, including two games of 17 and 13 runs. Their offense is going crazy, and it shouldn't stop today.
Yordan Alvarez ($3,900) is the best bat in the lineup, as per usual. Alvarez is coming off a stellar series against Boston as he had eight hits, two home runs, and five RBIs in three games. Of course, it's been an impressive year for one of baseball's best hitters, posting 23 home runs, 77 RBIs, and a .408 wOBA in just 87 games after missing part of the season due to injury.
Alvarez is the highest projected hitter for Houston today; numberFire's model has him projected for 13.5 FanDuel points.
Stack the Astros' offense with any of Jose Altuve ($4,200), Kyle Tucker ($3,800), Alex Bregman ($3,600), and Chas McCormick ($3,500). They're going good; tonight should be no different.
Baltimore Orioles
Implied Total: 4.84 | Opposing Pitcher: Zach Davies (RHP)
The Baltimore Orioles continue to try and hold off the Tampa Bay Rays in the race for the American League East, so they'll be bringing a punch as they did in their last series.
Baltimore is coming off a series against the Chicago White Sox where they scored at least five runs in each game. Now taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight, the Orioles will prepare for Zach Davies.
The right-handed starter is much like the other pitchers we're stacking against today. Davies has a sky-high ERA of 6.93 that is accompanied by a 4.69 FIP and 5.09 SIERA. He is coming off one of the best starts to his season where he allowed one run in five innings to the Cincinnati Reds but was mashed by the Atlanta Braves for nine earned the start before. The O's should be able to have themselves a night.
Anthony Santander ($3,700) is having his best season to date at the middle of the order, amassing a .350 wOBA, 26 home runs, 79 RBIs, and a .235 ISO through 125 games. numberFire has Santander set for 14.4 FanDuel points, the most of anyone on the Orioles.
Rookie of the year favorite Gunnar Henderson ($3,300) has been a "do-it-all" type of player all season long with his 22 home runs, 77 runs scored, and 65 RBIs. He's always a good option when locked into a top-five spot in the order.
Finish out an Orioles stack with Ryan Mountcastle ($3,300), Adley Rutschman ($3,100), Austin Hays ($2,800), or Ryan O'Hearn ($2,600).
