College Basketball Prop Bets

DePaul at St. John's

Joel Soriano Over 15.5 Points (-102)

St. John's big man Joel Soriano was held to six points in the Red Storm's most recent game against UConn. That was just the second time all season he failed to crack double-digit points.

Expect a major bounceback tonight against DePaul, and I like him to go over his 15.5-point prop.

The Blue Demons are winless in 11 Big East games. In conference play, DePaul has given up the most points (79.4) and the highest field-goal percentage (48%) in the league. They've allowed 22 individual players to score 16 points against them -- something Soriano has done 12 times himself.

He notched 21 points in the two games prior to their matchup with UConn and averages 14.5 points per game in conference play. That's ticked up to 17.1 at home, so he's well-positioned to feast against a vulnerable DePaul interior.

According to Bart Torvik, the Blue Demons have allowed 39.2% of opposing shot attempts to come at the rim (fourth-highest in the Big East). Opponents are shooting 63.4% on such attempts, the 34th-highest mark in the country.

Soriano, meanwhile, is shooting 72.7% at the rim this season, which is second in the Big East (minimum 100 shot attempts). He's taken 57.1% of his shots at the rim and should be busy down low tonight.

It doesn't hurt that Soriano has thrived in this matchup before, notching 21 and 17 points in two games against DePaul last season.

On top of that, St. John's has the highest implied total (84.5) of any college basketball team tonight. Points should be plentiful for the Red Storm, and I expect Soriano to lead the way, cruising past this 15.5-point line in the process.

No. 18 Dayton at Saint Joseph's

Daron Holmes Over 20.5 Points (-108)

The 18th-ranked Dayton Flyers may be on upset alert tonight, but that shouldn't stop Daron Holmes from going over his 20.5-point prop.

Holmes -- second in KenPom's player of the year standings -- ranks 30th nationally in scoring with 20 points per game. He's really flipped the switch in Atlantic 10 play, leading the league with 23.2 points per game. His 34.2% usage rate in conference play ranks 11th nationally.

He's been especially hot of late, scoring at least 21 points in six of the last seven games. Given St. Joseph's defensive struggles, he stands a good chance of adding to that streak tonight.

The Hawks rank 12th in the A-10 in scoring defense (70 points per game) and defensive efficiency. They've especially struggled to defend the perimeter where opponents have averaged 9.8 made threes per game, second-most in the conference.

Holmes does a good chunk of his work down low, but he's shooting 38% from three on 3.6 attempts per game during A-10 action.

While St. Joe's does a respectable job protecting the rim, they've struggled to defend dominant big men without fouling. In an earlier matchup with Kentucky's Tre Mitchell, the Hawks gave him six free throw attempts. He finished with 22 points.

That's music to Holmes' ears, as he's averaged 8.6 free throw attempts per game in conference play.

Given Holmes' high usage rate and recent hot stretch, I like him to go over this 20.5-point line in what should be a tightly contested affair.

No. 14 Iowa State at Texas

Max Abmas Over 3.5 Assists (-155)

The 14th-ranked Iowa State Cyclones visit the Texas Longhorns tonight. While Texas is a home favorite, they'll likely need a complete game from point guard Max Abmas if they want to take down a ranked opponent. Averaging a hair over four assists per game, I like Max Abmas to go over his 3.5-assist prop tonight.

While Abmas is known more for his scoring, his playmaking has been unlocked with the Longhorns. His 4.2 assists per game is a career-high, and he's proven capable of setting up his teammates, especially at home.

In 13 true home games, Abmas has averaged 4.8 assists per game and only 12.3 shot attempts per game -- compared to 2.5 assists and 15.0 shot attempts on the road.

That lines up nicely given the matchup tonight. Iowa State's defense is tough, but their style of defense lends itself to high assist totals for opposing teams. In Big 12 play, the Cyclones have allowed an assist on 64% of made baskets, which is the third-highest mark in the conference.

They've let 10 different Big 12 players record at least four assists against them -- something Max Abmas has done in four of nine conference games.

Abmas has established himself as a strong playmaker in conference play, and the matchup is there for him to rack up the dimes tonight. I'll bank on him to go over 3.5 assists and keep my eye on Max Abmas To Record 6+ Assists (+275), too.
