2024-25 NBA Championship Odds: Celtics and 4 Western Squads Tabbed Early Favorites

The 2024 NBA Finals tips off Thursday, June 6th with the Boston Celtics favored to take down the Dallas Mavericks (-220). It's never too early to look ahead to the 2024-25 season as FanDuel Sportsbook has NBA odds live for the 2024-25 NBA Championship.

Several familiar faces are among the favorites, including this season's NBA Finals participants. Of course, the 2024-25 NBA Championship odds will vastly change throughout the offseason and could even drastically move following the 2024 NBA Finals. Still, it's worth a look as some teams could be providing great value.

Who are the favorites to win the NBA championship in the 2024-25 season?

Philadelphia 76ers+1500

Boston Celtics (+350)

The Celtics have been among the favorites to win the 2024 NBA Finals for most of the season. Boston is on the verge of winning their 18th NBA title and is the early favorite to win next season's championship.

They were numberFire's best team for the 2023-24 regular season and had the highest offensive rating and second-highest defensive rating. The Celtics have also made the Eastern Conference Finals in four of the last five seasons and the NBA Finals in two of the last three seasons. This is a consistent franchise that regularly makes deep runs into the postseason.

Most importantly, Boston has their core pieces locked up for the long haul. Jayson Tatum is eligible for a supermax extension this offseason and does not have a player option until 2025-26. Jaylen Brown just signed the richest NBA contract of all time last offseason, inking a five-year deal worth over $300 million. Derrick White and Kristaps Porzingis are each locked up for one more season, and Jrue Holiday is under contract until at least the 2027-28 season.

It's safe to say that the Celtics' should be one of the NBA's best once again in the 2024-25 season.

Denver Nuggets (+850)

The Denver Nuggets won the 2022-23 NBA Championship and were the favorite to come out of the Western Conference ahead of the 2024 playoffs. Denver's 2023-24 season came to a disappointing end with a loss in the Western Conference semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Still, the Nuggets have the tools to remain one of the Association's most dangerous teams. Denver had the fourth-highest nERD score in 2023-24. Nikola Jokic won his third MVP award since 2021 and remains the best basketball player on the planet. Jokic doesn't have a player option until 2027-28, and Jamal Murray has one season left before becoming an unrestricted free agent. Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon each have multiple seasons left on their contracts, as well.

Jokic (29.8%), Murray (28.6%), and Porter (20.7%) had three of Denver's highest usage rates for the 2023-24 season. The Nuggets will likely be right in the thick of things for the 2024-25 season.

Minnesota Timberwolves (+900)

One of the most up-and-coming franchises in the NBA is the Timberwolves. Minnesota made an aggressive move to trade for Rudy Gobert ahead of the 2022-23 season, and it didn't immediately provide results with the T-Wolves losing in the first round of the 2023 playoffs.

Minnesota just had their best season since 2004. This isn't a club with a ton of postseason success as they've appeared in only two Western Conference Finals (WCF), one of which was in the 2024 postseason.

Much of the Timberwolves' success can be credited to Anthony Edwards -- the blooming young superstar who comes off a career-high 25.9 points per game (PPG). Edwards also logged 27.6 PPG during the 2024 playoffs and delivered several memorable performances such as a 43-point showing in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Nuggets.

Minnesota fell short in the 2023-24 season, but they gained valuable experience. The T-Wolves will likely remain relevant with one of the league's upcoming superstars, and a successful 2024 playoff run cements their changes at 2024-25's title.

Dallas Mavericks (+950)

The Mavericks just appeared in the WCF in two of the last three seasons. Dallas is currently chasing their second championship in franchise history. If the Mavs manage to beat the Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals, their odds to win next year's title will probably drop.

The obvious headliners of this team are Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. This marriage has paid off, and it did not come without risks as Kyrie was under plenty of criticism before landing in Dallas.

Luka is one of the league's best players and comes off a career-high 33.9 PPG paired with 9.2 rebounds per game (RPG) and 9.8 assists per game (APG). Irving enjoyed an efficient season with 25.6 PPG.

The Mavericks did a great job of filling out the roster with the likes of PJ Washington and Dereck Lively. Dallas has Doncic, Washington, and Lively on contract for at least two more seasons, and Irving is under contract for the 2024-25 season.

Oklahoma City Thunder (+950)

The newcomer to the NBA Finals race could be the Oklahoma City Thunder. They took a huge leap in the 2023-24 season, going from 40-42 to 57-25. The Thunder even earned the top seed in the West. However, this was a similar situation to the Timberwolves.

Oklahoma City has a very young roster and didn't really have any prior playoff experience. They ran into an experienced Mavericks squad and were knocked out in the second round of the 2024 playoffs. The Thunder could only keep improving as they entered the 2023-24 season with the second-youngest roster in the league. OKC can add another uber-talented youngster to their toolbox with the 12th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is another young player tracking to be one of the faces of the league for years to come. He has finished in the top five of MVP voting in the last two seasons and was even second in 2023-24. Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren are also key pieces who are on rookie contracts for several seasons. OKC has returned to being a true contender for NBA titles.

Outside of the top five contenders, the Milwaukee Bucks (+1000), Philadelphia 76ers (+1500), and New York Knicks (+1500) are some contenders to watch from the Eastern Conference. The Phoenix Suns are also interesting at +2900. They were a major disappointment in 2023-24, but the Suns still have a talented top of the roster with the likes of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal under contract.
