Zach Edey 2023 NBA Draft Profile (Combine Results, Measurements & Scouting Report for Physical Specimen)

Updated:

Purdue's Zach Edey enters the 2023 NBA Draft as one of the more intriguing prospects available. After a career year with the Boilermakers, only time will tell if Edey will have more success at the NBA level.

Here's everything you need to know about Zach Edey before the 2023 NBA Draft.

Zach Edey Scouting Report and Draft Prediction

Edey is coming off an impressive campaign that saw him named the national college basketball player of the year. It's not hard to see why as the Toronto, ON native led the Big Ten in multiple categories, including points per game (22.3), rebounds (12.9) and field-goal percentage (64.8%).

Standing at 7-foot-4 with shoes on, Edey has the size to continue being a center in the NBA. He excels in the paint on both ends of the floor and isn't afraid to get physical.

Unfortunately, Edey doesn't have the floor-stretching skills that NBA coaches like in today's big men. He didn't attempt a single three-pointer during his time at Purdue while only averaging 1.1 assists over 99 total games. He's also fairly slow, which could get him caught out of position with how fast NBA action is.

A lot of mock drafts have Edey getting drafted toward the end of the second round or even going undrafted altogether. Keeping that in mind, he'd be a low-risk selection for the Milwaukee Bucks at No. 60.

With Brook Lopez and Meyers Leonard hitting free agency, the Bucks don't have any centers on their roster, per Spotrac. In fact, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis Jr. are their only big men, period. Edey is someone that Milwaukee could use to eat some backup center minutes while providing some strong paint defense whenever Antetokounmpo and Portis are off.

With the right development, Edey could be a solid bench player for the Bucks for years to come.

Prediction: Milwaukee Bucks (Round 2, 60th overall)
