Zach Charbonnet Scouting Report
Zach Charbonnet continued proving that he can do it all in his final year at UCLA. The talented running back paced the Pac-12 in rushing yards (1,359) and yards per carry (7.0) on 195 carries, finding the end zone 14 times along the way. He also turned 37 receptions into 321 more yards.
Charbonnet is a physical rusher he isn't afraid to run through the interior of the field. He fights through tackles with solid ball security and has demonstrated impressive patience, waiting for the perfect holes to develop. His versatility in rushing and passing situations is exactly what coaches look for in today's NFL.
As promising as he is, Charbonnet has weak areas in his game. While he's great at running in straight lines, he slows down when he must change directions. He isn't much of a reliable blocker, either, making him a liability if the ball isn't coming his way on a passing play.
Zach Charbonnet NFL Draft Prediction
Zach Charbonnet is an exciting prospect, highlighted by all five mock drafts listing him as a Day 2 selection. A trio of experts have him as a third-round pick while the other two see him going one round earlier.
The Cincinnati Bengals are a realistic destination for Charbonnet. After all, they lost backup RB Samaje Perine in free agency, opening up a spot behind lead back Joe Mixon. A two-head monster with upside is what the Bengals need after averaging the fifth-fewest rushing yards last season.
Mixon is also getting older and only has two years remaining on his four-year deal. Thinking about the present and future, adding Charbonnet should be a no-brainer for the Bengals.
Prediction: Cincinnati Bengals (Round 2, 60th overall)
