Prediction

The Aces started their WNBA Championship defense with a 105-64 statement victory over the Seattle Storm on Saturday as both Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young dropped 23 points. Meanwhile, the Sparks took care of business with a 94-71 victory over the Phoenix Mercury to kick off the campaign.

Las Vegas picked up right where it left off last year when it notably finished as the top-scoring team in the WNBA (90.4 points per game). Los Angeles finished 11th in points allowed per game (86.6) and got the benefit of facing a team with some new faces in Phoenix. That's not the case on Thursday.

The Aces are a well-oiled machine and are considered the favorite to repeat as champs for a reason. They have won a whopping 11 straight games against the Sparks and six of those 11 victories have come by a margin of at least 14 points. I expect a similar result in LA as the Aces stay dominant.

Prediction

Neither one of these teams has gotten off to a great start. The Lynx couldn't keep up in a pair of home losses to the Chicago Sky & Atlanta Dream, while the Mercury failed to rise to the level of their foe in losses to the Los Angeles Sparks and Sky. Thursday's matchup serves as a chance to bounce back.

Depth is the difference between these two teams as the Lynx are struggling to find scoring outside of Napheesa Collier (18.5 points per game). The Mercury have not had that same issue as Brittney Griner, Diana Taurasi and Sug Sutton are each averaging at least 11.5 points per game on the year.

Griner has been especially fantastic for Phoenix in her return to the WNBA as she is putting up 22.5 points to go along with 8.0 rebounds across two contests. The Lynx have allowed an opponent shooting percentage of 42.6% (No. 11 in WNBA), so Griner should be able to feast down low again.
