Willson Contreras Explains What Prompted Heated Exchange With Fan

Updated:

The Chicago Cubs' 7-5 win over the Washington Nationals was full of fireworks. Not only did the game go to extra innings, but catcher Willson Contreras was caught on video having a heated exchange with a fan in a Nationals jersey, leading to them being ejected by security.

Contreras explained after the win what caused his notable reaction to the fan.

The All-Star made it clear whatever this person said, it crossed a line. He didn't reveal many specifics, though he noted that his family was involved, which is what set him off.

Despite having to go through this unwarranted heckling, Contreras handled it about the best way possible. He didn't lash out or physically threaten the fan in any way, and he let stadium security escort the wrongdoer away rather than putting himself at risk of getting into any trouble.

Hopefully Contreras and the Cubs don't have to deal with any more nonsense to close out their series in Washington. MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook favor Chicago (-168) to defeat the Nationals (+142) in their rubber match on Wednesday.
