Who Won Last Year's Super Bowl? Recap of Rams vs Bengals SB LVI in 2022

The 2023 Super Bowl matchup is set, pitting the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs against the NFC champion Philadelphia for the Lombardi Trophy. While many are looking ahead of this heavyweight bout, some need a refresher on what happened last year.

Here's what you need to know about the 2022 Super Bowl between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals.

Super Bowl 2022 Winner

The Los Angeles Rams won the last Super Bowl, which took place on Feb. 13, 2022 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. They defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in a thrilling 23-20 affair that went down to the wire.

LA struck first, breaking the 0-0 tie on a touchdown pass to wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in the first quarter. Cincinnati then kicked a field goal to make things 7-3 at the end of the opening period.

The Rams notched their second TD of the game after quarterback Matthew Stafford connected with favorite wideout Cooper Kupp on an 11-yard pass. The Bengals responded, though, scoring a touchdown of their own with under six minutes left in the second quarter. These teams then entered halftime at a score of 13-10 in favor of LA.

Cincy then scored twice in the third quarter to take a 20-13 lead. A 41-yard field goal from Rams kicker Matt Gay made it 20-16 in favor of Cincinnati at the end of the third quarter.

Despite entering the final period trailing, LA never panicked. The Rams eventually broke through for their third touchdown with only 1:25 left on the clock, giving them a 23-20 lead they held on to for good.

Last Year's Super Bowl MVP

The winner of the 2022 Super Bowl MVP award was Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp. He was a key part of his team's 23-20 win, leading his squad in receptions (8), receiving yards (92) and touchdowns (2), including the game-winner with under two minutes left.

He became just one of eight WRs all-time to win Super Bowl MVP.
