3 Most Likely White Sox Trade Targets at the Deadline

Pegged as potential World Series contenders before the campaign began, the Chicago White Sox have been anything but that during the 2022 MLB season. While they've looked strong here and there, they're below .500 with a 31-33 record and need a big turnaround to salvage the year.

The good news for White Sox fans is that their team has a lot of time to turn things around. The trade deadline will allow them to fill out the holes on their roster, hopefully setting things right before it's too late.

The MLB trade deadline is Aug. 2, and these three players should be at the top of the White Sox's target list.

White Sox Trade Rumors

1. Jon Berti, IF/OF — Miami Marlins

Second base has been a point of weakness for the White Sox, as Leury Garcia has been unproductive with a .194 batting average and two home runs with 12 RBIs in 47 games. If Chicago wants to upgrade that position, Miami Marlins infielder/outfielder Jon Berti is a player worth targeting. Along with having identical HRs and RBI totals as Garcia in 10 fewer games, Berti would add some speed to the White Sox with his MLB-leading 18 stolen bases. Furthermore, his ability to play every position aside from first base and catcher is something that shouldn't be overlooked either. If the Marlins are listening, the White Sox must target Berti.

2. Mychal Givens, RP — Chicago Cubs

Could Chicago Cubs reliever Mychal Givens be gearing up for a crosstown move? Givens, who was dealt at least year's trade deadline, is another solid target for a White Sox bullpen that could use some veteran leadership. Although his 4.21 ERA is far from his best performances, Givens is averaging an impressive 11.6 strikeouts per nine innings while owning a 4-0 record through 26 appearances. He's 32 years old and on an expiring contract, so the White Sox certainly wouldn't have to break the bank to land him. If he can continue pitching at his current level, White Sox fans should feel more confident with their team's bullpen.

3. Paul DeJong, SS/2B — St. Louis Cardinals

Paul DeJong struggled to begin the 2022 MLB season, resulting in the St. Louis Cardinals sending him to the minors back in May. Even with his struggles, it's important to remember that the 28-year-old possesses impressive power, mashing 96 HRs over the previous five seasons. With Yasmani Grandal's struggles at the plate (.185 BA, two HRs and 15 RBIs in 50 games), he's no longer effective when used as a designated hitter. That's why the White Sox should take a swing at DeJong. If he can bounce back with a change in scenery, Chicago suddenly has a power-hitting DH that they can trust. If it doesn't work out, it won't be that big of a deal since it'll likely be a low asking price.
