Updated:

Rumors and speculation are running rampant as the 2022 MLB Trade Deadline approaches. With still more than a month to go, expect there to be plenty of buzz to sort through as buyers and sellers preapre for potential moves.

Here's everything you need to know about this year's trade deadline.

When is the MLB Trade Deadline 2022?

The MLB Trade Deadline is slightly pushed back this year due to the delayed start of the 2022 season. Teams will have until 6 p.m. ET on Aug. 2 to make deals this season.

There's already been a few trades in 2022, and expect that activity to ramp up as the deadline gets even closer. There were 149 players dealt in 56 total deals during July 15-30 last season, which indicates the big fireworks are still yet to come.

MLB Trade Deadline 2022 Candidates and Rumors

The first couple months of the season have already made it clear who's a contender and who will be hoping for a top draft pick. As a result, there's no shortage of buyers or sellers looking to make the most of the deadline.

Clubs at the bottom of the standings like the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals figure to be eager to deal veterans in favor of young assets. On the other hand, potential contenders like the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets will want to beef up their rosters for postseason runs.

Rumors continue to fly as front offices ramp up talks ahead of August. The bottom-dwelling Kansas City Royals are reportedly considering parting with All-Star Whit Merrifield as they contemplate a full-scale teardown.

KC should be very busy at the deadline, and it appears the Milwaukee Brewers are interested in making a deal for outfielder Andrew Benintendi. Milwaukee could use his bat and glove after splitting with veteran Lorenzo Cain.

The Cincinnati Reds could also host yet another fire sale after they traded several key players heading into this season. All-Star pitcher Luis Castillo is considered one of the top prizes of the deadline, with teams like the San Diego Padres and Minnesota Twins hoping to add him to their rotations.
