When is Kevin Durant Coming Back for the Suns? Latest Updates on Pending Return From Ankle Injury

Updated:

Update: Kevin Durant is expected to make his return to the court on Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to The Atheltic's Shams Charania. Our original story follows below.

It's been three weeks since NBA fans saw Kevin Durant faking out defenders and converting contested layups for the Phoenix Suns. He last played on March 5 before suffering an ankle sprain after slipping in pregame warmups. Let's dive deeper into when Durant may rejoin his teammates.

Latest Kevin Durant Injury Update

The Suns announced that Durant was diagnosed with an ankle sprain on March 9 and originally said that he would be re-evaluated in three weeks. Ankle sprains tend to come with a recovery timeline of anywhere from two to eight weeks, but all signs point to Durant being on the early end of that span.

NBA insider Shams Charania revealed that Durant is working toward a potential return when the Suns face off against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. Of course, that is assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks and feels healthy enough to carry a full workload for a majority of the contest.

While head coach Monty Williams has been shy to provide details on Durant's recovery, he has been adamant that the 13-time All-Star is continually "progressing." Durant is averaging 26.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in three games with the Suns this season. Each game has resulted in a win.

Injuries have been a mounting problem for Durant over the last few seasons, but he remains one of the most dominant players in the sport when healthy. That's why the Suns traded for him in the first place and have the third-best odds to win the NBA Finals at +700, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
