When Is Chris Paul Coming Back for the Suns? Latest Updates on Hip Injury

The Phoenix Suns' starting lineup is hurting right now. Phoenix is not only without Devin Booker and Cameron Johnson, but Chris Paul is also in the middle of his second lengthy absence this season due to injury.

Paul is making progress toward a return, though. Here's the latest on the situation.

Latest Chris Paul Injury Update (Jan. 18)

CP3 appears to be getting close to taking the floor again for Phoenix. He was a full participant at Wednesday's practice, but head coach Monty Williams was noncommittal regarding the veteran's status for Thursday.

Paul ramping up his practice activity is a good sign at the very least. Williams also didn't rule out Paul for Thursday's matchup against the Brooklyn Nets, so there's a slim chance he suits up.

The 12-time All-Star has missed each of the Suns' last five games while he tends to a hip injury. Phoenix has unfortunately gotten used to seeing Paul on the sidelines, as he sat out 14 straight games during November and December due to a significant heel problem.

Paul's been the team's floor general when healthy in 2022-23, leading the team with 8.3 assists per game while averaging 13.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per night. He's enjoyed a resurgence from deep as well, posting the fourth-highest 3-point percentage (39.8%) of his 18-year career.

Paul's presence is even more important with backcourt mate Booker out indefinitely due to a groin injury. The star duo missing 35 games between them has played a huge role in Phoenix slipping to No. 12 in the Western Conference this season.

Despite their health woes, the Suns are still No. 8 to win the Finals at +1500, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA odds.
