Week 5 Monday Night Football Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for Raiders vs Chiefs

Week 5 Monday Night Football Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for Raiders vs Chiefs

Updated:

Two AFC West rivals meet up on Monday Night Football in Week 5 as the Las Vegas Raiders take on the Kansas City Chiefs. This game features the highest projected total (51.5) of the week on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds, so we should expect plenty of points (real-life and fantasy) from these two high-flying offenses.

If you need some help with your fantasy lineups, here's our start 'em, sit 'em advice for this Week 5 divisional rivalry game.

Davante Adams Fantasy

Start Davante Adams, WR, Las Vegas Raiders: Davante Adams has been boom-or-bust this year with two games over 100 receiving yards and two games below 40, but we like his chances of booming here. He's coming off a 101-yard outing in Week 4 and gets to face a Kansas City defense that's allowing the sixth-most receiving yards and third-most receiving touchdowns in the NFL. Las Vegas will likely be playing from behind in this game as well, forcing Derek Carr to air it out. Adams will benefit from a steady stream of targets and put his past struggles against the Chiefs behind him.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire Fantasy

Start Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, Kansas City Chiefs: It's become popular to dump on Edwards-Helaire for not living up to the hype as a former first-round draft pick, but you can't argue with his results this year. The 5-foot-8 running back has already racked up 5 touchdowns thus far, putting him one shy of his previous best. He's scored at least one touchdown in every game this year except for Week 2 and is coming off his most productive rushing game of the season after tallying 92 yards on 19 carries last week. The 23-year-old has been heavily involved in Kansas City's offense this year, especially in the red zone, making him a good bet to score again in Week 5.

Hunter Renfrow Fantasy

Sit Hunter Renfrow, WR, Las Vegas Raiders: Renfrow is set to return to the Raiders after missing the last two games with a concussion, but that doesn't mean you should slot him back into your fantasy lineups just yet. The veteran slot receiver was a mixed bag in terms of fantasy production before going down, notching 80 receiving yards and 0 touchdowns over his first two games. Mack Hollins has also become more involved in the offense during his absence, hauling in 11-of-16 targets for 191 receiving yards and a touchdown while Renfrow was sidelined. It may take a game or two for Renfrow to get back up to speed, and it's possible his role will be somewhat diminished with the emergence of Hollins. Sit Renfrow in Week 5 and monitor his usage.

Kansas City Chiefs D/ST Fantasy

Sit Kansas City Chiefs D/ST: You may be tempted to start this Chiefs unit given its success against the run game this year, but we advise against that. It's true that Kansas City has allowed the fewest rushing yards in the NFL this year, but Las Vegas has an offensive-minded head coach in Josh McDaniels who can work around that and find ways to exploit KC's vulnerable secondary. Renfrow and Darren Waller don't have injury designations this week, so Carr will have his full complement of pass-catchers to attack a porous Chiefs defense that's allowing 263.8 passing yards and 24.0 points per game. Kansas has surrendered at least 20 points in every game so far, so stream a defense with a higher ceiling instead.
