Week 4 Waiver Wire Pickups 2022: Fantasy Football Players You Need to Add

Updated:

Week 3 of the 2022 NFL season was full of some surprising fantasy performances, including 30+ points performances by Khalil Herbert and Mack Hollins.

The week also saw a number of higher-profile running backs emerge with injuries such as Dalvin Cook and David Montgomery. Targeting their backups is an easy, but a necessary place to start on the waiver wire.

If you need help sorting through the events of the weekend, The Duel has you covered. Here are the top waiver wire pickups heading into Week 4 of the 2022 season.

Week 4 Waiver Wire

Note: Only players rostered in fewer than 50% of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues are eligible for this list.

1. Khalil Herbert, RB, Chicago Bears (49% Rostered)

The first two names on our list include reactions to running back injuries, but these are must-targets as soon as the waiver wire opens up. David Montgomery was rolled on by a defender and left with an apparent knee or ankle injury. Either way, it looks like he could miss some time. Enter Khalil Herbert, who absolutely shined in Montgomery's absence in Week 3. Herbert finished the week as RB1 after tallying 20 carries for 157 yards, 2 TDs and two receptions. The New York Giants' defense has been solid against the run, but this is an opportunity to cash in on volume.

2. Alexander Mattison, RB, Minnesota Vikings (55% Rostered)

We'll make a small exception to our rule in adding Dalvin Cook's backup Alexander Mattison to this list. Cook exited in the 4th quarter with a shoulder injury. It's still unclear if Cook will miss any time, but Mattison is a fantasy darling when Cook's not healthy. He promptly turned 7 carries into 28 yards, and most importantly 1 TD in Week 3. He's a player that put up at least 20+ PPR points in his three games with a full workload last year and that trend continues into 2022. Another RB injury to consider is D'Andre Swift. Unfortunately, backup Jamaal Williams is rostered in 61% of leagues, but he's a must-add if available.

3. Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers (25% Rostered)

Enough with the running back injuries. Let's target some wide receivers. Rookie Romeo Doubs immediately turned into Aaron Rodgers' favorite pass-catcher with the absence of Christian Watson and Randall Cobb entering the game as questionable. He racked up 8 receptions on 8 targets, turning in 73 yards and 1 TD. That was good enough for a WR8 performance. Considering the hype of this young wideout in camp, and the ability for Rodgers to zero in on his favorite playmakers, it's best to stash Doubs now before he takes on a bigger role. He already leads the team with 16 targets and 14 receptions, so this isn't much of a stretch.

4. Greg Dortch, WR, Arizona Cardinals (17% Rostered)

It's time to start taking Greg Dorch seriously from a fantasy perspective. He's already caught 20 of his 23 targets, and ranks second on the team with 198 receiving yards. It's quite clear Dortch is Kyler Murray's favorite wide receiver outside of Marquise Brown while he awaits the return of DeAndre Hopkins. Three games is enough of a sample size to take Dortch's WR19 ranking seriously, at least until Hopkins returns. Ranking third on the team in overall targets (23) and red zone targets (2) only sweetens this deal.

5. George Pickens, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers (40% Rostered)

More of a prospective grab, fantasy managers should consider taking a shot on George Pickens. The Steelers' coaching staff told us they would get Pickens more involved in Week 3, and that's exactly what happened with his 7 targets. Only Diontae Johnson garnered more of Mitchell Trubisky's attention in Week 3 (11 targets). Pickens did not do much with the new opportunities, but the Steelers only scored 17 points as a whole. If you've got room on your bench, now is the time to grab Pickens before he puts in another game with 6 or 7 targets.
