Week 3 Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for Texans vs Bears

Week 3 Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for Texans vs Bears

Updated:

Two offenses with young quarterbacks leading the way meet head-to-head in Week 3 as the Houston Texans visit the Chicago Bears. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds list the Bears as 2.5-point home favorites in a game that could easily go down to the wire.

If you need some help with your fantasy lineups, here's our start 'em, sit 'em advice for this Week 3 showdown.

Dameon Pierce Fantasy

Start Dameon Pierce, RB, Houston Texans: A ton of people tabbed running back Dameon Pierce as their breakout pick in fantasy football for the 2022 season. There's no denying it is taking him some time to adjust to the NFL and get going, but he draws a perfect matchup in Week 3. The Bears are allowing a league-high 189.3 rushing yards per game and just got torched for 5.8 yards per carry in Week 2. The game script here works in Pierce's favor, too. The Texans are expected to keep this one close, meaning the rookie should get touches throughout the fourth quarter. That is not often said about a Texans squad that tends to be on the wrong side of blowouts.

David Montgomery Fantasy

Start David Montgomery, RB, Chicago Bears: There's no denying that the Bears offense has looked dismal through the first two weeks. Chicago is averaging a league-low 216.0 total yards per game and has scored a total of 29 points (T-No. 26 in NFL). The only thing that kept them in striking distance of the Packers in Week 2 was a strong rushing attack. Running back David Montgomery logged 122 yards on 15 carries (8.1 average) and was bursting through holes set up by the offensive line. Look for more of the same against a Houston defense that has given up the seventh-most PPR fantasy points to opposing RBs so far.

Houston Texans D/ST Fantasy

Sit Houston Texans D/ST: It's surprising to see the Houston Texans D/ST being added as one of the most popular streaming options in fantasy football this week. Don't get it twisted, head coach Lovie Smith's team has looked much improved in 2022. The only problem is that those improvements aren't resulting in a ton of fantasy points. The Texans ranks as the 16th-highest scoring D/ST and have not posted double-digits in a game yet. The Bears offense may be underwhelming, but it is an offense that only has 2 giveaways on the season. It's best to look at other streaming defenses this week.

Darnell Mooney Fantasy

Sit Darnell Mooney, WR, Chicago Bears: Wide receiver Darnell Mooney entered the season surrounded by hype as quarterback Justin Fields' No. 1 target. However, fantasy managers have been sorely disappointed with his production. While Mooney has played in 90% of the offensive snaps in each of the first two games, he has hauled in 2 of his 5 targets for only 4 yards. The Bears are abandoning the air attack, too as Fields ranks 33rd in the NFL in passing attempts (28). Mooney is best kept as a stash player on the bench right now. The risk of another dud performance is too high to justify sliding him into your FLEX spot.
