Week 5 of the 2022 NCAA college football season includes an ACC showdown between the No. 22 Wake Forest Demon Deacons and No. 23 Florida State Seminoles. Wake Forest is coming off a 51-45 overtime loss to Clemson in Week 4 despite quarterback Sam Hartman throwing 6 touchdowns in defeat.

Meanwhile, Florida state is off to its first 4-0 start since 2015 after taking down Boston College by a score of 44-14 on Saturday. The Seminoles were paced by a strong rushing attack that averaged 5.5 yards per carry and scored 4 touchdowns. Linebacker Brendan Gant led the defense with 4 tackles and 1.0 sacks.

Wake Forest vs Florida State Prediction & Pick

Wake Forest has won back-to-back games against Florida State, but neither of those games were played at Doak Campbell Stadium. It's a stadium in which the Seminoles have won five straight games against the Demon Deacons. One of those winning streaks is obviously going to have to end this weekend.

I'll give the edge to Florida State here, but just barely. There's one area of the game it outshines Wake Forest in, and that is on the ground. The Seminoles average 167.0 rushing yards per game versus the Demon Deacons' average of 94.0 yards. That'll be the difference between a win and a loss here.

Final Score Prediction: Florida State: 34 | Wake Forest: 30

Florida State may win this game, but expecting them to win it by a full touchdown seems unrealistic. After all, Wake Forest is 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last five games and is 4-1-1 ATS in its last six matchups against FSU. The Demon Deacons' air raid offense gives them a shot to score at any time.

That passing attack is going to be the key here. The Seminoles' secondary has been shutting down one passing attack after another, but it hasn't faced one as successful as Wake Forest's. Hartman and his deep receiving corps will be able to make enough big plays to keep this game close until the end.

Bet: Wake Forest +6.5 (-104)
