VIDEO: Remembering When Steve Young Laid Out Deion Sanders After an Interception

Generally speaking, the last man to beat on an interception return is the quarterback, and most times the QB's don't fair well as tacklers. Hall of Famer Steve Young disproved that narrative with this hit on Deion Sanders, a Hall of Fame legend in his own right.

The play of the game was Steve Young being picked off by Deion Sanders, and a Prime Time Pick 6 looked like a ?, until #8 laid him out. It's the best open field tackle by a QB, ever.#NinersAtNoon? #49ersCamelot via: @davidmlipinski pic.twitter.com/aelTqxnEEV
Calling it the best open-field tackle by a quarterback ever is probably a slight exaggeration, but this is definitely an incredible play by Young. The San Francisco 49ers go on to win this game by a touchdown, which is exactly what the quarterback prevented when he sold out to bring down Deion.
Young really only clips the leg of the Dallas Cowboys defensive back, but it's enough to stop Sanders as he was airborne in an attempt to leap his tackler. As the broadcast notes, Sanders is upset that none of his teammates bothered to block Young on the return, and he's right. One blocker would have been the difference in this interception becoming the touchdown Dallas needed.

For anyone that's ever said a quarterback can't make a tackle, read up on some history. Steve Young and countless others would beg to differ.
