VIDEO: Kolten Wong Made Classy Gesture After Breaking Up Joe Musgrove's No-Hitter in Eighth Inning

Updated:

San Diego Padres starter Joe Musgrove was dealing Friday night, holding the Milwaukee Brewers to zero hits over the first 7 2/3 innings. That's when second baseman Kolten Wong stepped up to the plate, though, and ripped a double in the bottom of the eighth to break up Musgrove's no-hit bid.

Wong realized immediately after what he had just prevented, and he responded with a salute to Musgrove.

This is nothing but a glassy gesture on Wong's behalf. He was just doing his job by seeking out a hit, but it's certainly still sad to be the guy who ends up taking away history from someone else.

Making this exchange even better was the fact Musgrove acknowledged the salute and clearly didn't have any ill feelings about the hit. It's amazing to see how much respect was exchanged on both sides without a word even being spoken.

Given how Musgrove is dealing this year, recording a perfect 6-0 record with an NL-leading 1.64 ERA, it'd be no surprise to see him put up another no-hit bid during the 2022 season.
