USA Under-20 FIFA World Cup Schedule, Roster and History Ahead of 2023 Event

This spring brings another major soccer event with it, as the men's under-20 FIFA World Cup prepares to kick off later this week. All eyes will be on the Americans in Argentina, who are seeking yet another deep run in the tournament.

Here's everything fans need to know about Team USA before the men's under-20 World Cup.

USA Under-20 World Cup Roster 2023

A total of 21 players were named to the U-20 World Cup roster for the United States. This includes 11 players who were part of the team's under-20 CONCACAF Championship win last year.

Six players on USA's U-20 World Cup roster have even logged time with the men's senior national team. Forward Cade Cowell (3) and defender Jonathan Gómez (2) are the select few to have multiple USMNT appearances to their name. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Gaga Solinina made his national team debut in January 2023, and defender Caleb Wiley took the field as a sub this past April.

USA Under-20 World Cup Schedule 2023

Team USA will play in Group B during the first round of the 2023 U-20 World Cup. They'll face the three other group members (Ecuador, Fiji, Slovakia) once during this stage. The top two teams from every group and the top four third-place squads will advance to the Round of 16.

Looking ahead, the Round of 16 is set to take place from May 30-June 1. The quarterfinals will be June 3-4. The semifinals are scheduled for June 8, and the final is on June 11.

USA Under-20 World Cup History

The U.S. has been a frequent participant in the under-20 FIFA World Cup, qualifying 17 times since the biennial tournament's inception in 1977. The United States has advanced past the Group Stage on 11 occasions, including each of the past three events.

Unfortunately, the Americans have never won the men's under-20 FIFA World Cup. USA came closest at the 1989 tournament in Saudi Arabia, finishing fourth after losing to Brazil 2-0 in the third-place match.
