Updated Steelers QB Depth Chart After 2022 NFL Draft

Updated:

The 2022 NFL Draft was unprecedented in the fact that only one quarterback was taken within the first 70 overall picks. Of course, Kenny Pickett was selected in the first round by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He joins a crowded QB room heading into what should be an exciting training camp.

The Steelers are hoping for a smooth transition into a new era of football after long-time starter Ben Roethlisberger retired following 18 seasons with the team. There are a few options as to who will be the one to take over the reins, so here's a look at the Steelers' updated QB depth chart for 2022.

Steelers QB Depth Chart 2022

1. Mitchell Trubisky

Mitchell Trubisky was brought in on a two-year deal worth $14 million in free agency and looks to have the inside track on starting for now. Despite only averaging 186.9 passing yards per game, the 27-year-old owns a career record of 29-21 and has started a playoff game as well. Trubisky has also thrown 64 touchdowns compared to 38 interceptions. As long as he can keep his turnovers under control, he has a chance to shine.

2. Kenny Pickett

No one was surprised when the Steelers used the No. 20 overall pick to take Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett. The former Panthers star capped off a storied college career by tossing 42 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions during his senior season. His pinpoint accuracy and ability to stay calm in the pocket will certainly give Trubisky a run for his money this summer.

3. Mason Rudolph

Mason Rudolph has been with the Steelers for three seasons now and owns a record of 5-4-1 across 10 starts. He has also posted a completion percentage of 61.5% and a 10.0 yards per completion mark. Rudolph lines up to be a perfectly capable No. 3 QB, but his inability to efficiently push the ball down the field leaves him with little upside.

4. Chris Oladokun

The Steelers double-dipped at the QB position in the 2022 NFL Draft when they selected Chris Oladokun in the seventh round (No. 241 overall). Oladokun spent time at South Florida and Samford before ending up at South Dakota State. He was 238-of-382 for 3,164 yards, 25 touchdowns and 7 interceptions as the Jackrabbits' starter in 2021. There's a chance he overtakes Rudolph for the No. 3 spot with a strong showing over the next few months.
