Update Emerges on Royals-Zack Greinke Rumors After Josh Lyles Signing

Updated:

The Kansas City Royals are never big spenders in free agency. They rely on their farm system and value-driven deals in the offseason to build up their team.

On Tuesday, it was reported the Royals were planning to sign starting pitcher Jordan Lyles to a two-year contract. Lyles is a 12-year veteran that spent last season with the Baltimore Orioles, notching a 12-11 record and a 4.42 ERA.

However, the Lyles signing doesn't mean the Royals are done adding to their pitching staff. John Heyman is reporting the Royals remain interested in adding to their rotation and Kansas City legend Zack Greinke remains on their radar.

Greinke began his career in Kansas City where he became a star, before moving on to stints with the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks and Houston Astros before he finally returning to the Royals for the 2022 season.

Greinke had a solid showing in 2022 with a 3.68 ERA. He is clearly not the pitcher he once was, but he proved he can still be effective.
