Update Emerges on Broncos' Defensive Coordinator Search

Updated:

New Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is busy assembling his staff for the 2023 season. One important position Payton needs to fill in the coming days is defensive coordinator, which is currently vacant after Ejiro Evero departed for Carolina.

Many are wondering who Payton will tap for the role, and now an update has emerged on the search.

Denver hosted interviews with coaching veterans Rex Ryan and Vance Joseph this week, according to Mike Klis of 9NEWS. Klis added there's no "immediate decision" coming on the DC opening as Payton takes his time with the search.

Interestingly, Payton could interview "another candidate or two" following Ryan and Joseph. Though those two are the frontrunners, it's clear the new Broncos HC is being as thorough as possible with the decision on his new staff.

Ryan and Joseph are each experienced options that could lead this unit to new heights in 2023. Both were head coaches previously and have helmed top defenses in their careers, so Payton has a difficult decision to make. He may need to choose fast, though, with Joseph being eyed by another team.
