Two Cardinals Players Officially Listed as Free Agents

The 2022 MLB season has come to a conclusion, meaning front offices around the league are now going to start shifting attention to offseason free agents. 131 players were officially declared as free agents on Sunday, including two St. Louis Cardinals pros that made a great impact this past summer.

St. Louis Cardinals Free Agency

The more notable of the two Cardinals' free agents is veteran pitcher Jose Quintana. Quintana joined St. Louis at the MLB trade deadline in August and ended up posting a dazzling 2.01 ERA across 12 starts. The 33-year-old gave up only 1 home run and racked up 48 strikeouts across 62.2 innings.

The other player hitting the open market is outfielder Corey Dickerson. Dickerson emerged as a reliable starting option for manager Oliver Marmol down the stretch and slashed .267/.300/.399 in 96 games. The All-Star talent tallied 28 runs scored, 17 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs and 36 RBI as well.

It wouldn't be surprising to see either veteran re-signed as the Cardinals look to repeat as NL Central champions. St. Louis is projected to have the 14th-highest payroll in the league next year, which gives them some wiggle room in offseason negotiations. The opportunity to upgrade the roster is present.

Of course, it's only right to mention that the Cardinals are also losing their starting designated hitter and catcher to retirement this offseason. Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina will no longer being suiting up for St. Louis after a combined 31 MLB seasons with the team. Their spots will not be easy to fill.

For now, the Cardinals have odds set at +2000 to win the 2023 World Series, per FanDuel Sportsbook.
