The fast-approaching Nov. 1 trade deadline means plenty of rumors will begin to fly in the coming weeks. One team that could be active is the San Francisco 49ers, who have been hampered by injuries and own an underwhelming 3-3 record as a result.
Now one rumor has linked the 49ers to a star RB ahead of the deadline.
San Francisco has been "implicated" in trade talks for Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. They're not the only one in pursuit, though, as the Los Angeles Rams were also mentioned among the contenders for McCaffrey.
Competition is expected to be fierce over McCaffrey, who's also been linked to the Buffalo Bills recently, ahead of the deadline. Carolina is expected to plunge into another rebuild and will demand premium draft capital in order to part with its star.
Though it will cost the 49ers, the thought of CMC in this offense is mouth-watering. He's a playmaker out of the backfield that can beat teams on the ground or as a receiver, giving this team another dual-threat talent to trot out alongside Deebo Samuel.
With Elijah Mitchell sidelined and Jimmy Garoppolo's limitations as a passer, investing at RB would be a smart choice for the Niners. This team is capable of a deep playoff run with a top-ranked defense leading the charge, so adding one of the top RBs in order to improve the offense is worth the price.
