Trade Deadline Rumors Link Brewers to Veteran Slugger

Updated:

The Milwaukee Brewers are hoping that their 2022 MLB season ends with a World Series victory. As great as they've looked heading into June, there's always room for improvement if it means improving their shot at a championship run.

With the MLB trade deadline approaching next month, ESPN's Jeff Passan is linking the Brewers to a certain veteran slugger. The player in question is none other than former 2019 All-Star first baseman Josh Bell.

Milwaukee Brewers Trade Rumors

Bell is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2022 MLB season, so it makes sense that the Washington Nationals have him as a trade candidate. Rowdy Tellez has provided Milwaukee with decent power numbers, but doesn't offer the level of on-base percentage that Bell does.

Bell's enjoying one of his best performances in sometime so far this season. He leads all Nationals players in both home runs (five) and RBIs (29) while batting .309 — the best average of his career. His 11.1% strikeout percentage is also a personal-best.

Another thing that makes Bell attractive to the Brewers and any contending team is that he's a switch hitter. He's hitting better against right-handed pitchers (.331) compared to southpaws (.269) in 2022, but that's not much of an issue since his versatility is what teams crave in the first place.

The Brewers rank seventh in slugging percentage this season, but don't crack the top-half in on-base percentage.

Brewers World Series Odds

Acquiring Bell would be a game-changer for Milwaukee. FanDuel Sportsbook already has the club at +1200 (No. 6) to win the 2022 World Series, but adding the veteran slugger to the mix could boost those odds even more.
