Top Fantasy Football Streaming Quarterbacks for Week 2

Updated:

Week 1 of the 2022 season brought plenty of surprises. Geno Smith out-dueled Russell Wilson on Monday Night Football, and scored a nearly identical fantasy performance, while usual fantasy studs like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers put up dud performances.

A couple of QBs enjoyed surprising Week 1 performances, including the likes of Carson Wentz, Marcus Mariota and even Baker Mayfield.

If you're thinking about making a switch at QB for Week 2, here are our top three streaming quarterback picks, rostered in fewer than 50% of Yahoo! leagues, to target on the waiver wire.

3. Carson Wentz, Washington Commanders (15% Rostered)

As mentioned above, Carson Wentz looked very comfortable in his Commanders' debut. The veteran gunslinger finished as QB3 after tallying four touchdowns and 313 passing yards against a bad Jacksonville Jaguars secondary. His two interceptions are troubling, but Wentz faces another relative walk in the park in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. Detroit allowed Jalen Hurts and the Eagles to put up 455 total yards of offense. Hurts didn't manage a single TD pass, but he attempted just three passes in the red zone versus six team rushes. Wentz will be able to take advantage of a Lions' secondary that ranked 27th in Football Outsiders' defense DVOA metric last year.

2. Marcus Mariota, Atlanta Falcons (9% Rostered)

Marcus Mariota was another surprise in Week 1, putting together a QB10 performance. It's important to remember a key fantasy football rule here. Dual-threat quarterbacks always have better upside. Mariota didn't throw a single TD pass, and barely cracked 200 yards through the air (215), but rushed 12 times for 72 yards and a TD. His Falcons do face a tougher test against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2, although LA looked terrible against arguably the best QB in football (Josh Allen). Allen tallied 56 yards on the ground and Mariota should at least be able to hit that mark. The floor is safe.

1. Matt Ryan, Indianapolis Colts (43% Rostered)

Matt Ryan's Week 1 performance was exactly impressive, putting up QB16 numbers with 352 yards but just 1 TD and 1 interception against the Houston Texans. He preps for an enticing matchup, however, against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jacksonville gave up the third-most fantasy points by a QB in Week 1, dashed by Carson Wentz and the Commanders. Ryan is an even, if not better talent than Wentz so it's safe to assume a similar performance. Wentz finished Week 1 as QB3 and that's the sort of upside Ryan brings into this Week 2 matchup.
