Top Fantasy Football Streaming Defenses for Week 8

Updated:

Week 7 of the NFL season featured several strong defensive performances from unexpected teams such as the Carolina Panthers, Tennessee Titans and Washington Commanders. Week 8 presents plenty more matchups to exploit for managers who opt to stream this position.

If you're one of those managers, The Duel is here to help with three of our top fantasy football streaming defenses for Week 8.

Week 8 Streaming Fantasy Football Defenses

3. Atlanta Falcons (vs CAR)

After trading away Christian McCaffrey and Robbie Anderson, the Carolina Panthers are a team you'll want to target for fantasy defenses going forward. The Panthers are woefully short on playmakers and have an uninspiring QB room of Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and PJ Walker. Even with its big win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, Carolina still ranks 26th in points per game and dead-last in yards per game. This is a low-ceiling offense that hasn't scored more than 24 points in any game this year, making Atlanta a viable play here. While the Falcons just got lit up by the Cincinnati Bengals, they're in a good spot here at home against a familiar division rival. They'd also allowed fewer than 24 points in four straight games prior to last week, so expect a bounce-back performance from the defense in a get-right game for Atlanta.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars (vs DEN)

The Jaguars have been up and down this year on both sides of the ball, but we expect a strong week for the defense against the Denver Broncos in London. The Broncos have been a mess offensively all season and will likely be without Russell Wilson in this game due to a partially torn hamstring. Even if Wilson does suit up, Jacksonville will still be an ideal streaming option. Denver ranks last in points per game (14.3) and 10th-worst in yards per game. The Broncos have managed just 34 points in their last three games combined and are poised to struggle against a Jaguars defense that's giving up the 10th-fewest points per game. Jacksonville has allowed fewer than 14 points three times this year, and this game could be the fourth.

1. Washington Commanders (@ IND)

Any time you can grab a defense going up against a backup quarterback, you have to do it. The Indianapolis Colts have already announced that Sam Ehlinger will start in place of Matt Ryan this week, which is a massive boon to Washington's fantasy potential. Ehlinger hasn't played at all this year and has never started an NFL game before, appearing in just three games off the bench last year. The former sixth-round pick could be in over his head against a Commanders defense that just got the best of Aaron Rodgers in Week 7 after holding the Chicago Bears to seven points in Week 6. Washington's defense has been solid this year, so expect a strong performance here.
