Timberwolves vs Spurs Prediction, Odds & Best Bet for April 8 (Edwards Shines Against Shorthanded San Antonio)

Updated:

The Minnesota Timberwolves (40-40) are set to pay a visit to the San Antonio Spurs (21-59) in one of three NBA games slated for Saturday, April 8. The Timberwolves can still improve their play-in positioning while the Spurs have been long eliminated from postseason contention.

Timberwolves vs Spurs Game Info

  • Date: Saturday, April 8, 2023
  • Time: 4 p.m. ET
  • Venue: Moody Center -- Austin, Texas
  • Coverage: Bally Sports North, CW35

Both teams have some momentum on their side. The Timberwolves picked up a 107-102 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday with help from Anthony Edwards' 23-point effort. On the other side, the Spurs are coming off a 129-127 win against the Portland Trail Blazers, highlighted by Zach Collins and Tre Jones each finishing the night with double-doubles.

Can the Timberwolves guarantee that they'll finish the season at the .500 mark with a win? Or will the Spurs spoil the road team's fun?

Timberwolves vs Spurs Prediction & Pick

With a loss helping them improve their draft positioning, I don't expect the Spurs to give much of an effort today. That's only highlighted by the fact that they've already ruled out five players for this afternoon while another two are questionable, per ESPN. The Spurs already average the seventh-fewest points in the NBA, so the lack of healthy bodies won't help their chances of victory.

While the Timberwolves have four questionable players (including Karl-Anthony Towns), their lineup is still more talented than the opposition. It's a small sample size, but Anthony Edwards is averaging 25.5 points on 45.3% shooting over his last four games. Meanwhile, Mike Conley has been hot from behind the arc and is hitting 45.9% of his threes during a 10-game stretch.

That isn't even mentioning the likes of Rudy Robert, Kyle Anderson and Jaden McDaniels, who have all played solid lately and are better than the majority of the Spurs' roster. Unless something goes extremely wrong, expect the T-Wolves to be victorious.

Final Score Prediction: Timberwolves: 124 | Spurs: 114

Timberwolves vs Spurs Best Bet

Anthony Edwards heads into tonight's game with a projected point total of 24.5 — one that he won't have an issue surpassing. After all, it's a number that he's gone over seven times in his previous 12 outings. On top of that, he's finished with more than 24.5 points in two of his last four games against the Spurs, averaging 27.5 PPG over that stretch,

With San Antonio's lineup being noticeably shorthanded this afternoon, expect a big offensive showing from Edwards.

Bet: Anthony Edwards — Points: Over 24.5 (-115)
