There's no denying that the last two NFL seasons have been a rough time to be a Houston Texans fan. The team has posted an 8-25 record during that span and haven't even come close to sniffing the NFL Playoffs. New head coach Lovie Smith is hoping he can turn that all around in 2022, though.

This season will be all about determining which players can become building blocks for the future and which ones are simply taking up cap space. That includes young quarterback Davis Mills, who is looking to improve after throwing for 2,664 yards, 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as a rookie.

Let's break down the Texans' playoff chances in 2022 using odds provided by FanDuel Sportsbook.

Texans Playoff Chances 2022

Houston is available at +1400 to make the postseason. That equates to an implied probability of 6.7% for the Texans to earn a playoff berth.

Houston Texans Playoff Odds 2022

The Texans head into the 2022 season with the worst odds to capture the AFC South title. The Indianapolis Colts remain the favorite at -105 and the Tennessee Titans are not far behind at +145. Houston checks in with odds set at +2600, which even trails the Jacksonville Jaguars (+700).

Texans Win Total Over/Under 2022

The Texans' win total has been set at 4.5 with -105 odds on the over and -115 odds on the under.

Texans Odds to Win AFC 2022

It shouldn't come as a surprise to see oddsmakers give the Texans the worst odds to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl 57 at +10000. The only other team with odds worse than +4400 are the New York Jets (+8500). Neither team has made a Super Bowl appearance since the turn of the century.

Texans Super Bowl Odds 2022

As for the Lombardi Trophy, Smith's team is available at +30000 to win it all. Those odds rank last among all NFL franchises, behind both the New York Jets (+15000) and Atlanta Falcons (+25000).

Texans 2022 Season Prediction

There's not a ton to like about the Texans' chances of being this NFL season's Cinderella team. Houston ranked among the bottom ten squads last season in statistical categories such as points per game (16.5), yards per game (278.1), points allowed per game (26.6) and total DVOA rating.

Not only that, but Houston's front office made little effort to upgrade the roster in the offseason. The coaching staff is banking on first-round picks Derek Stingley Jr. and Kenyon Green balling out right away. That's going to be hard considering the Texans have the 13th-hardest schedule in the NFL.

The only shot Houston has at making the postseason would be winning the three divisional games they have on tap to end the regular season. That's a tall ask at this point. All signs point to another disappointing outcome and a high draft pick for a team in the middle of a rebuilding phase.

Texans 2022 Record Prediction: 5-12
