Week 8 of the 2022 NCAA college football season includes a nationally televised ACC showdown between Top 25 teams. The surprising No. 14 Syracuse Orange head to Death Valley to tackle ACC kingpin No. 5 Clemson Tigers.
Syracuse is 6-0 including 3-0 in ACC play after shutting down NC State last week 24-9. The Wolfpack were without their star starting quarterback, but the Orange still held them to 255 yards total offense and Syracuse has already surpassed last year's win total (5).
Meanwhile, Clemson improved to 5-0 in the conference with a 34-28 win over Florida State - the Tigers third-straight cover against the spread.

Moneyline: SYR: (+400) | CLEM: (-550)
Spread: SYR: +13.5 (-110) | CLEM: -13.5 (-110)
Total: 49.5 — Over: (-112) | Under: (-108)
Clemson enters this contest as the clear favorite on the spread and -550 on the moneyline. The takeback on Syracuse to win the game is +400, or 4/1. The total has dropped 2-points since Monday and is 49.5 points - more than a TD lower than an average college football total.
Syracuse vs Clemson Prediction & Pick
The undervalued Orange have now covered the spread in 5-of-6 games this season. The Syracuse defense has been delivering the stops with an ACC best 13.2 points per game against. The challenge this week is slowing a Tigers offense that has scored 30 or more points in all 7 games this season.
Clemson was favored by this same -13.5 point spread in last year's meeting and eked by Syracuse 17-14. That was the Orange's third-straight game losing by 3-points. Now Syracuse has a defense that has allowed a league-low 10 TD's in 6 games, and the Orange allow just 95 rushing yards per game - second behind Clemson (85).
Clemson's rushing attack is No. 7 in the ACC averaging 170 yards per game, and the Tigers passing attack is No. 5 averaging 247 yards per game. But the Syracuse pass defense is also No. 1 in the ACC allowing 173 YPG while Clemson's pass defense is No. 12 in the ACC allowing 255 YPG.
While Clemson has played the tougher schedule, and Syracuse is hitting the strength of their schedule in Oct. and Nov., there is still not enough adjustment for the strong Syracuse start to the season and Clemson remains overrated.
Final Score Prediction: Clemson: 24 | Syracuse: 20

Clemson is 20-0 in their last 20 home games, and at the start of the season this looked like an easy win. Syracuse has some good wins with a dominating 31-7 victory over Louisville showing a strong, balanced offensive attack.
Then Syracuse held off Purdue's 400+ passing yards to beat the Boilermakers late, 32-29. Last week's 24-9 win against NC State was another balanced offensive performance with nearly 400 yards - which was more than Clemson managed in a 30-20 home win over NC State two weeks earlier.
This is not a dominant Clemson team. The Tigers showed holes on defense against Wake Forest allowing 45 points in a fortunate OT win. Last week Clemson was out-first downed 28-18 and outgained by 90 yards against Florida State but won 34-28. Syracuse can clearly hang if they don't get flagged too much or turn the ball over to set up the Tigers.
