Sterling Sharpe's Last 3 Years With Packers Are Only Rivaled by Jerry Rice

One of the more underrated players in NFL history has to be former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Sterling Sharpe. In part, he gets looked over because he played just seven seasons. Having a brother as loud and talented as Shannon Sharpe also leads to some of the disrespect.

However, Sharpe certainly retired on top. His final three seasons with the Packers were so remarkable that they can only be rivaled by the great Jerry Rice.

Sharpe was unfortunately forced to retire from from football too soon. He suffered a severe neck injury that ended his career. This leads many to ask what his legacy would have been if he were able to continue his dominance with Brett Favre.

In the final three seasons of his career, Sharpe caught 314 passes for 3,854 yards and a whopping 42 touchdowns. During the same span, Rice out-paced Sharpe in yards, but the Packer had the edge in receptions and touchdowns.

Sharpe led he entire league in receptions in two of those three seasons, and he led in touchdowns in two of the three years as well. His best overall season has to be 1992, when he totaled 108 receptions for 1,461 yards and 13 touchdowns, all a NFL-high.

When discussing the NFL greats at the wide receiver position, Sharpe has proven to be in the conversation, despite injury ending his career after seven seasons.
