Stefon Diggs Reveals How Bills Trade Almost Didn't Happen

Updated:

Buffalo Bills fans can obviously thank Josh Allen first and foremost for the transformation they've undergone on offense over the last few seasons, but Stefon Diggs isn't far behind in the hearts of Bills Mafia.

Trading a first-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings for Diggs was a pivotal move for this franchise, and it's one that has clearly worked out. Diggs revealed on Von Miller's podcast that the trade almost didn't happen, however.

Diggs actually had his agent shut down the Bills' first effort to trade for Diggs, which was during the 2019 season. From Diggs' answer it sounds like he wasn't quite ready to buy in to what the Bills had been building around then-sophomore QB Josh Allen.

The offseason rolled around and Diggs changed his tune. A 10-6 record and making it to overtime of a Wild Card game had the Bills looking a little better, and the other trade options weren't exactly appealing. In the interview, Diggs practically laughs off the idea of going to "the Jets, or somewhere like that."

This ultimately worked out perfectly for both Diggs and the Bills. He won All-Pro honors and the receiving title in his first season as a Bill, and he and Allen have Buffalo positioned as a +400 favorite to win the Super Bowl this season, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's Super Bowl odds.
