Steelers Get Bad News With Latest Pat Freiermuth Injury Update

Updated:

As if Sunday's humiliating 38-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills during Week 5 wasn't bad enough, the Pittsburgh Steelers also lost tight end Pat Freiermuth to a concussion. The big TE had to be helped off of the field and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Based on how his injury is trending, it looks like Freiermuth may be unavailable for Week 6 as well.

Pat Freiermuth Injury Update

Freiermuth did not practice on Wednesday as he continues to work through the NFL's concussion protocol. While he still has time to log a practice on Thursday or Friday, the week's not off to a great start for him.

If Freiermuth is unable to suit up, his presence will be missed against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6. The Penn State product is one of the better players at his position and has been a key part of Pittsburgh's offense this year, ranking second on the team in both targets (32) and receptions (20).

A sidelined Freiermuth would make like considerably more difficult for rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett against Tampa Bay's vaunted defense this week. The Buccaneers are heavily favored in this matchup, leaving the Steelers as 8.5-point home underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
