Skyy Moore Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Opportunity to Rise on WR Depth Chart)

The Kansas City Chiefs added to their new-look wide receiver position this past April when they selected Skyy Moore in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Western Michigan product racked up 1,292 yards and 10 touchdowns on 95 receptions in his final college season (12 games).

With that being the case, it's no surprise to see Moore becoming a trendy sleeper option in fantasy football rankings this year. His average draft position (ADP) has him going as the 51st wide receiver off of the board and as an 11th-round selection.

Skyy Moore Fantasy Outlook

Selecting rookies in redraft fantasy football leagues is all about upside and situation. The good news here is that Moore has the ability to regularly create separation and could end up as the Chiefs' No. 1 WR by the end of the year. That means he fits both of those criteria to a tee. Without Tyreek Hill around to hog targets, quarterback Patrick Mahomes is going to spread the ball out between JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mecole Hardman and Moore.

Moore showcased in college that not only can he take on a big workload, but he thrives with it. The 21-year-old saw a whopping 36.9% target share for the Broncos in 2021 and it led to five games with 10 or more receptions. Moore also logged seven games with over 100 receiving yards. He was able to use his quick feet to slip past defenders on a weekly basis, which should allow for a smooth transition to the NFL level. Don't be surprised if Moore becomes a rookie standout in terms of yards after the catch.

While Hill's speed outshines that of Moore's, he's a comparable option when it comes to how rookies can perform under head coach Andy Reid. Hill joined the Chiefs as a fifth-round pick in 2016 and went on to log 860 yards from scrimmage to go along with nine touchdowns. He also entered the season outside of the starting lineup, much like Moore is expected to. Grabbing any piece of an offense that led the NFL with 407.6 yards per game in 2021 lines up to be a smart move.

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook expect Moore is carve out a noticeable role on the Chiefs offense. He's 43rd to lead the NFL in receiving yards (+10000), which compares to where Kendrick Bourne finished the 2021 season at with 800 yards. Keep in mind Moore is also sixth to lead all rookies in receiving yards (+1000). Those odds are notably tied with Garrett Wilson and George Pickens. When taking into account Moore's average of 14.5 yards per reception in college, it would take 55 receptions for him to reach the 800-yard mark. That's certainly not an unrealistic goal with Mahomes slinging the ball in Kansas City.

Is Skyy Moore a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

When it comes down to it, is Moore someone to target in the later rounds? For sure. His upside rivals that of any other rookie wideout. Moore may not crack the top 50 WRs in The Duel's PPR fantasy football rankings, but he has a great chance to finish there by the end of the season.

It's been reported that Moore has been soaking up any time he can get with Mahomes this offseason. That includes building chemistry in offseason workouts and staying after practice to go over more plays. That's certainly something that could work out in the rookie's favor.
