Skinner Horse Trainer and Jockey

Skinner is trained by John Shirreffs, a West Coast-based trainer who served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He's most known for training the HOF mare Zenyatta, who won 19-of-20 starts.

Skinner's jockey for the 2023 Kentucky Derby is Juan Hernandez, who rides in his first Kentucky Derby. Hernandez is a top West Coast jockey leading at Santa Anita since 2020. He also rides Skinner for the first time.
