Shocking New Info Emerges on Raiders' Split From Derek Carr

Updated:

The Derek Carr-Las Vegas Raiders saga will continue to be one of the league's biggest stories until a resolution is found. Given the history here and the sudden nature of the split, there's sure to be plenty of new information that emerges in the following weeks.

The latest details on these parties splitting ways is shocking.

Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review Journal reports the Raiders' new regime knew Carr "was not a long-term fit within weeks of the start of the season." With a lack of belief in the quarterback, Las Vegas didn't want to risk him getting hurt over the final two weeks and being locked in to his 2023 salary.

It's a major surprise Las Vegas' decision-makers felt they saw enough in just a couple of games to decide Carr's fate in Sin City. The three-time Pro Bowler was coming off of a very successful 2021 campaign where he led the team to the playoffs thanks to a resurgent passing year. A reuinion with Davante Adams set him up to be even better this season, but a transition to a new offensive system was sure to take some time.

Instead, Dave Ziegler and company seemed set on a breakup early on. This regime has proven throughout the year they aren't afraid to move on from past holdovers, and going a new direction at QB just reinforces that philosophy.
