The Kraken finished the 2022-23 NHL regular season with a 46-28-8 record, which earned them the Western Conference's top wild card spot. Jared McCann had the best season of his career, leading Seattle in goals (40) and points (70) while defenseman Vince Dunn also impressed with a career-high 64 points.

Who Are the Kraken Playing in the 2023 Playoffs?

As the West's first wild card team, the Kraken will play the Avalanche -- who posted the best record in the Central Division -- in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. This will be a typical best-of-seven series that follows the 2-2-1-1-1 format. That means the better seed (Colorado) will host Games 1 and 2, plus Games 5 and 7 if those are necessary. The worse seed (Seattle) hosts Games 3 and 4, plus Game 6 if that is necessary.

Looking ahead, if the Kraken win this series and advance, they would face either the 2-seed Dallas Stars or 3-seed Minnesota Wild in the Western Conference semifinals.
