Seahawks Get Concerning D'Wayne Eskridge Injury Update

Updated:

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll revealed that wide receiver D'Wayne Eskridge has been sidelined with a hamstring injury during mandatory minicamp. It's a disappointing update considering the second-year pro needs every rep he can get to prove he deserves a bigger role on offense.

D'Wayne Eskridge Injury Update

Eskridge is fighting to work his way up the depth chart after an underwhelming rookie season. The 2021 second-round pick missed seven games due to a concussion and posted 64 yards to go along with 1 touchdown on 10 receptions in 10 games played. Nothing about his efforts truly stuck out.

Carroll mentioned at the end of last season that Eskridge could see more work in the rushing attack moving forward, though. The Western Michigan product accounted for 59 yards on the ground on 4 carries in 2021 and also ended his college career with an average of 9.7 yards per rushing attempt.

The Seahawks are back for a three-day session on Tuesday, which gives Eskridge another chance to get on the field. He is in the midst of a battle for the No. 3 WR role with Freddie Swain as well as rookie Bo Melton and needs to build chemistry with the quarterback duo of Geno Smith and Drew Lock.

Hamstring injuries can be tricky for players that are used to changing direction on a dime. Whether or not Eskridge can make a quick recovery may end up being crucial for Seattle's WR position. The Seahawks have odds set at +430 to make the NFL Playoffs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
