Santa Anita Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 10/15/22

Updated:

Starting at 4:00 p.m. ET, we have 10 races Saturday at Santa Anita at "The Great Race Place."

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Santa Anita Betting

According to numberFire horse racing projections, these are the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.

1. Leggs Galore, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/5

Race 3 is the California Distaff Handicap for fillies and mares going 6 1/2 furlongs on the downhill turf. Just 5 runners, and the numberFire data picks the favorite Legg Galore (4/5) to take this wire-to-wire followed by Eddie's New Dream (5/2), who cuts back in distance but has shown good stamina.

Leggs Galore has won 9-of-17 starts including his last two starts this Spring at Santa Anita.

2. Reign of Speed and Start Them Up, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1 and 8/1

Race 5 is a Maiden Claimer for Cal-bred 2-year-olds sprinting 6 furlongs. The numberFire algorithm projects Victim of the Nite (8/1), King Zog (5/2) and Stay in the Game (6/1) as the top-3 finishers.

But Reign of Speed (4/1) is perhaps the best horse in the field and owned by top handicapper of the WCHR. He finished fourth as the favorite last race with a poor ride and break from the gate. A strong recent work and insight from the owner/handicapper says he'll push from the gate and get a better trip with a jockey change after racing against better runners previously.

Start Them Up (8/1) is viable at a price and can move forward off his last race.

3. Witch Moon and Rvalentina, Race 10

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1 and 8/1

Race 10 has a full field of 12 fillies and mares going 1-mile on the turf. Dolly May (3/1) is the favorite of choice, but numberFire's data also projects longshots Lizy D (12/1) and Myfavoritedaughter (12/1) to hit the board.

Dolly May had missed the board in four starts this year at Santa Anita before a runner-up finish last race at Del Mar. She's a risk and not a solid favorite, while Witch Moon (6/1) has hidden value as a well-spotted runner cutting back in distance and running up front, according to the WCHR. She's posted solid 80's speed figures in races at Santa Anita to fit well with this group.
