Santa Anita Horse Racing Picks Saturday 2/4/23

The Santa Anita Classic Meet continues with races on Saturday including four graded stakes with the Kentucky Derby prep Robert B. Lewis Stakes headlining the day at "The Great Race Place." Post time to start the day is at 3:00 p.m. ET.

According to numberFire horse racing projections, these are the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.

1. Newgate and Worcester, Race 3

Race 3 is the $200,000 Grade 3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles. This is a Kentucky Derby prep race, but no qualifying points this year as suspended trainer Bob Baffert is banned from racing horses at Churchill Downs.

Both numberFire and Horse Racing Nation's Super Screener project Newgate (8/5) as the winner with top UK jockey Frankie Dettori riding. The race has very low payout potential with only four horses in the field and Baffert training all four entries. Top challengers include low odds contenders Arabian Lion (7/5) and Worcester (9/5), who has the meets top jockey Juan Hernandez riding.

2. School Dance and One Silk Stocking, Race 4

Race 4 is the $100,000 Grade 3 Megahertz Stakes for older fillies and mares going 1 mile on the turf. The numberFire projections are School Dance (3/1) to win with Bay Storm (5/1) and Closing Remarks (7/2) hitting the board.

Horse Racing Nation likes School Dance as a top win contender along with longshot One Silk Stocking (12/1) for top trainer Doug O'Neill ridden by Frankie Dettori and Hamwood Flier (4/1) ridden by Juan Hernandez.

3. Dark Shift and Cabo Spirit, Race 10

Race 10 is the $100,000 Grade 3 Thunder Road Stakes for older horses going 1 mile on the turf. Dark Shift 8/1) is a value play and top win contender ahead of Earls Rock (5/1) with Flavien Prat riding, and Air Force Red (3/1) with Juan Hernandez up.

Cabo Spirit (6/1) is in the mix as the only 4-year-old in the race and he's 4-for-4 hitting the exacta over the Santa Anita turf.
