Saints Reveal Massive Asking Price for Sean Payton Trade

Updated:

With several teams seeking new head coaches, former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is in high demand. Payton retired after the 2021 season but has indicated that he might be open to returning to the NFL next season, making him a highly coveted trade target.

Not surprisingly, the Saints are demanding a king's ransom for Payton's services.

Sean Payton Trade Rumors

If a team wants to pry Payton away from New Orleans, it's going to cost them. The Saints are reportedly seeking at least two first-round draft picks as compensation for the former Super Bowl champ, using the Jon Gruden trade in 2022 as a reference point.

Based on how badly the Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers and others desire Payton, New Orleans is wise to get as much as it can for Payton. Multiple draft picks would dramatically accelerate the team's mini-rebuild and could help the Saints land their franchise quarterback of the future following Drew Brees' retirement after the 2020 campaign.

New Orleans has the leverage here and needs to exploit it as much as possible to help the organization get back on track after consecutive seasons without a playoff berth. If Payton can help the Saints acquire future talent, exploring trades for him is certainly worthwhile.
