Date: Sunday, September 25, 2022
Time: 1:00 p.m. ET
Venue: Bank of America Stadium — Charlotte, NC

A pair of NFC South rivals meet head-to-head in Week 3 as the New Orleans Saints travel to take on the Carolina Panthers. The Saints dropped a Week 3 contest to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 20-10, after allowing 17 points in the fourth quarter. Costly turnovers proved to be the difference.

Meanwhile, the Panthers again fell short of capturing their first win since Week 10 of the 2021 season. Christian McCaffrey's 102 rushing yards were the only highlight in a 19-16 Week 2 loss to the New York Giants. Quarterback Baker Mayfield went 14-of-29 for only 145 yards and 1 touchdown.

Updated (Sunday, Sept. 25, 11:30 a.m. EST): Updated odds were provided from FanDuel Sportsbook. Not much on this line has changed. The Saints entered as 3-point favorites, and that number is down to -2.5. The over/under point total also increased from 40.5 to 41.5 points.

The Saints enter this contest as a small favorite on the moneyline and the spread. This 1 p.m. ET clash also features one of the lower projected totals (40.5) on the NFL Week 3 slate.

Saints vs Panthers Prediction & Pick

The Panthers are in a downward spiral that has no end in sight right now. Carolina has held a lead in 17 of their last 19 games, but its record during that span is only 5-12. The Panthers are now 10-25 with head coach Matt Rhule in charge and beating the Saints is a lot to ask given recent results.

New Orleans is 5-1 straight up in its last six games against Carolina and have outscored the Panthers by 53 points during that span. This lines up as the perfect spot for quarterback Jameis Winston to get back on track and lead the offense on a scoring spree. The Saints will pull away in the second half.

Final Score Prediction: Saints: 27 | Panthers: 20

Saints vs Panthers Betting Trends

- New Orleans is 5-1 straight up in its last six games against Carolina.
- The total has hit the under in seven of New Orleans' last nine games.
- Carolina is 0-7 against the spread (ATS) in its last seven home games.
- The total has hit the over in 11 of Carolina's last 16 games against New Orleans.

Saints vs Panthers Best Bet

The Saints could easily break this game open, but more value lies in betting on the point total. The over has hit in 11 of the last 16 meetings between these two teams and it has also hit in seven of the last 10 Panthers' games overall. Carolina is averaging a reliable 20.0 points per game in 2022, too.

It's worth noting New Orleans could have running back Alvin Kamara back on the field in Week 3. He has torched the Panthers for 708 total yards and 7 touchdowns across eight career matchups. His ability to rack up first downs and singlehandedly lead offensive drives will help the over cash here.
