Saints Get Exciting Update on Injured Rookie

Updated:

The New Orleans Saints earned a 39-32 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5, but they didn't do so without suffering a few injuries at the wide receiver position. Deonte Harty and Chris Olave got banged up during the game, which has led to the promotion of undrafted free agent Rashid Shaheed.

New Orleans Saints Injury News

Harty suffered a turf toe injury on Sunday that is expected to keep him sidelined for at least a little while. Meanwhile, Olave remains in the NFL concussion protocol after hitting his head hard on the ground. Veterans Michael Thomas (foot) and Jarvis Landry (ankle) were inactive in Week 5, too.

Shaheed was a priority signing for the Saints after he didn't hear his name called during the 2022 NFL Draft. He is fully recovered from an ACL injury and looking to show what made him one of the best returners in college football. Shaheed was the first four-time All-American in Weber State history.

There's a chance Shaheed can make an immediate contribution in Week 6 as Harty served as the Saints primary returner at times this season. The 24-year-old averaged an impressive 29.1 kickoff return yards per try and set the FCS all-time record with 7 return touchdowns. He is simply electric.

Keep an eye out for further updates on Olave and Thomas. Missing those two against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6 would put even more pressure on running back Alvin Kamara and the defense. New Orleans is slated as a 1.5-point home underdog in Week 6, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
