Royals Land Major Steal in ESPN's MLB Mock Draft

Updated:

The Kansas City Royals have been struggling in the 2022 MLB season, giving their fanbase little reason to be excited. However, the Royals faithful finally has something to look forward to with the 2022 MLB Draft being right around the corner.

The Royals will have many several talented players to target at No. 9 in Round 1 and ESPN's MLB mock draft projects them to land a steal. Analyst Kiley McDaniel has IMG Academy centerfielder Elijah Green falling to Kansas City; a scenario that fans would certainly love.

Several baseball websites have Green listed as one of the top-three prospects in the 2022 class. In other words, landing him at. No. 9 might be a long shot for the Royals, but there's no doubt that they should snatch him up if he does fall that far.

Green, who's committed to playing at the University of Miami this fall, has made a name for himself by beating up baseballs. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect racked up 61 hits, 18 doubles, 15 home runs and 53 RBIs in 50 games played over his junior and senior high school seasons.

Green took some serious strides forward during his senior year, increasing his batting average from .321 in 2020-21 to .462. He also went from 34 strikeouts to just 21 in the same number of games and even improved his fielding percentage from .875 to .970.

There's no doubt that the IMG Academy product has all the tools to become a successful Major-Leaguer one day. Only time will tell if that ends up being with the Royals or another club.

The 2022 MLB Draft begins on Sunday, July 17 in Los Angeles, CA.
